Submission Guidelines
Everything you need to know to submit a record that makes it through moderation — and onto the leaderboard.
What We're Looking For
The Redneck World Records celebrates backyard ingenuity, resourceful engineering, and the kind of achievements that make your neighbors shake their heads in admiration. We're looking for records that are:
- Genuine. Real achievements by real people. No staged fakes.
- Creative. The more resourceful and inventive, the better.
- Documented. If you can't prove it, it didn't happen. Photos and video are essential.
- Respectful. We celebrate, never mock. Every record honors the builder.
- Family-friendly. Safe for grandma's coffee table. Always.
Content Rules
Every submission goes through our moderation team. To get approved, your record must follow these rules:
Required
- A clear, descriptive title that explains the record.
- A description that tells the story — how, why, and what makes it special.
- At least one photo or video showing the achievement.
- Accurate category and subcategory selection.
- Honest stats and measurements (if applicable).
Not Allowed
- Hate speech, slurs, harassment, or discriminatory content of any kind.
- Sexually explicit or suggestive material.
- Gratuitous violence or graphic injury.
- Content promoting illegal activity.
- Reckless or dangerous stunts with no safety precautions shown.
- Spam, duplicate submissions, or promotional content.
- AI-generated or digitally manipulated photos or videos presented as real.
- Content that mocks, belittles, or disrespects the people involved.
Media Requirements
Photos
- Accepted formats: JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF.
- Maximum file size: 10 MB per image (compressed automatically on upload).
- Minimum resolution: 640 × 480 pixels. Higher is better.
- Show the record clearly — good lighting, minimal blur.
- Up to 5 photos per submission.
Videos
- Accepted formats: MP4, MOV, WebM.
- Maximum file size: 100 MB per video.
- Maximum duration: 5 minutes. Shorter is usually better.
- Landscape orientation preferred for best display on the site.
- Audio is fine but not required.
Tips for Great Media
- Film during the day or in good lighting whenever possible.
- Show the full achievement — before, during, and after shots work great.
- Include something for scale (a person, a truck, a tape measure).
- Steady hands or a tripod make a huge difference for video.
Categories
Every record belongs to one of our 10 official categories. Pick the one that fits best — our moderators may recategorize if needed.
Writing a Great Submission
Title
Your title should say what the record is in plain language. Think of it like a headline someone would read and immediately understand.
Good: "Longest Ramp Jump in a Riding Lawnmower — 47 Feet"
Good: "World's Tallest Backyard Treehouse — 4 Stories"
Bad: "check this out lol"
Bad: "my thing"
Description
Tell the story. How did you build it? How long did it take? What materials did you use? What went wrong? The best descriptions read like they belong in a coffee table book — engaging, personal, and fun.
Aim for at least 2-3 sentences. Records with detailed descriptions get more votes and are more likely to be featured.
Stats and Measurements
If your record involves measurable quantities (distance, weight, height, speed, time, count), include them as stats. Be as specific and honest as possible. Common stats include:
- Distance (feet, yards, miles)
- Weight (pounds)
- Height (feet, inches)
- Time (seconds, minutes, hours)
- Count (number of items, attempts, participants)
- Speed (mph)
Use US customary units. For unusual or record-breaking measurements, our moderators may request additional documentation.
What Happens After You Submit
- Review queue. Your submission enters our moderation queue. Most submissions are reviewed within 48 hours.
- Approval or feedback. If approved, your record goes live immediately and can start collecting votes. If there's an issue, we'll let you know what to fix.
- Ranking. Once live, your record appears in its category leaderboard. Rankings are based on votes, recency, and engagement.
- Hall of Fame. Top records each year may be inducted into our Hall of Fame and featured in the annual Redneck World Records book.
Voting Rules
Voting is simple: tap to upvote, tap again to remove your vote. One vote per person per record. A few important rules:
- Do not create multiple accounts to inflate votes.
- Do not use bots, scripts, or automated tools to vote.
- Do not organize coordinated vote manipulation.
We have systems in place to detect vote manipulation. Violators will have their votes removed and accounts suspended.
Challenging a Record
Think you can beat an existing record? We love that. Submit your own record in the same category and subcategory. If your achievement tops the current holder, the community will vote accordingly. The leaderboard speaks for itself.
Reporting Content
See something that doesn't belong? Every record page has a flag button. You can report content for:
- Inappropriate or offensive material
- Spam or fake content
- Safety concerns
- Copyright or intellectual property issues
Our moderation team reviews all reports promptly. You can also email us at hello@theredneckworldrecords.com.
